“Saratoga’s three core values sum up the company culture perfectly – People Matter, Personal Excellence and Mutual Respect”.
Kyle Josias is a Junior Software Developer, and is currently part of a team that upgrades and maintains a legacy system for one of Saratoga’s international clients. In his role, Kyle spends most of his day writing code, and meeting with fellow team members and with the client. In his role at Saratoga, Kyle is continually learning about how projects are managed, how to work with a driven team, about mentorship in the workplace, and how to effectively track the progress of his work and personal goals.
While the COVID-19 pandemic has brought significant change to people’s lives and businesses alike – Kyle’s normal working day hasn’t changed too drastically and he is fortunate enough to be able to continue with work remotely. “Covid-19 has completely changed our lives, but Saratoga has adapted to the situation rather well. I’m able to continue with my daily activities while working remotely, and we now connect virtually as a team and company”.
Finding his feet with the current project presented some challenges to Kyle initially. “The project team I joined was working on upgrading and maintaining a legacy system, so the code base was huge to say the least. Getting a general understanding of how the system worked was a massive task in and of itself. The real challenge was trying to understand the general operations of the system and learning how to successfully navigate through the code to resolve issues within the system.”
Fortunately for Kyle, resolving issues and adding new features to a system which people use in the real world is very fulfilling and knowing that he’s contributed to society in a way that makes people’s lives a little better and easier gives him a real sense of accomplishment. “I honestly love what I do and will continue to do my best to deliver meaningful work – which I’m sure will grow my sense of accomplishment as my career and skills continue to evolve.”
Kyle believes that the industry is so vast and ever growing that it is impossible for one person to know everything, therefore he has learned that sharing information and insights is a great way to embrace continuous learning. Kyle enjoys sharing his personal projects with his Saratoga team members, and hopes this encourages them to expand their knowledge base by showcasing new technologies and the benefits of these. He also appreciates the support and advice he gets from his team at Saratoga, and finds that different perspectives help him to broaden his mind.“Saratoga has a great company culture that encourages their staff to think ahead, be proactive and take initiative – not only in a work sense but in your personal life too.”
