“My passion and enthusiasm for computers attracted me to the IT industry.”
As a developer at Saratoga, Senzo Maphumulo’s typical day consists of running the product that he’s working on, comparing results with production and refactoring the code to match production results. In his current role, he’s working on taking a Java system which was converted from Cobol successfully to production.
One of the aspects of his work as a Software Developer that he finds rather challenging, is supporting code that is written by another developer and he’s found that it’s sometimes easier to simply start from scratch. However, Senzo doesn’t let this challenge get him down and he makes use of smart IDE’s to navigate the existing code. Seeing solutions he’s developed successfully run and produce the expected results gives Senzo great job satisfaction. “Knowing that I figured out where to tweak and improve in a huge code base with no documentation is fulfilling.”
In order to develop successful solutions, you need to have a trusted team to work with. Senzo finds the scrum methodology the best method to create an environment where team members can share ideas and encourage continuous learning.
For Senzo it is all about ‘People Matter’, one of Saratoga’s core company values. “Being a Saratogan means to be proficient, professional, excellent, care about others, grow and most importantly, being part of the family.”
